Enchanted
Julie and I took Jensen to see Enchanted last night. It is a fairy tale movie with a twist. The animated evil queen fears her throne being overtaken by the animated princess. In an effort to keep her from taking her throne, the evil queen cast the princess to a place where there are “no happy endings.” The animated princess ends up in a human body in New York City. To the point. This princess lives like she is still in a fairy tale in the middle of NYC. The evil queen doesn’t stop there though. She sends a peasant guy to get the princess to take a bite out of a poison apple. He has three apples in which to get her to take just one bite from.
The first time he tries the princess is walking with her new friend in a park and the peasant guy, posing as a sidewalk vendor, gives her a free caramel apple. Of course she is so distracted by happiness in her surroundings that she doesn’t eat it, but accidentally tosses the apple as she throws her arms up in happiness.
Next, the peasant poses as an Italian waiter and gives her an apple drink. As the drink in placed in front of her, the princess is in the middle of a deep conversation with her new earth friend. This time, the drink is spilled in front of her by a chipmunk who is her friend. Stay with me, there is a good point here.
Finally the evil queen sees that the peasant dude isn’t going to get the job done, so she goes to New York to do it herself. She poses as an ugly old woman and catches the princess when she is down. She claims the apple will make all her pain and sadness go away. The princess takes the bite and of course goes into a coma.
A good spiritual application is in this. The apple in the movie is like sin. The princess wasn’t overcome by the first two apples because she was filled with joy and meaning. The last time, she was sad. The evil queen knew when to catch her, when she was burdened and down. That is when she failed.
Like us, sin is always waiting. Satan waits for us to be down, then he attacks. The good news is, we can plan and overcome all these attacks. Hopefully 2008 is the year for spiritual maturity for you. 1 John 5:3 “This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome…”

I have wanted to see that movie for awhile now. Seems like that’s happening to me lately. I haven’t been noticing the sin around me until Satan gets the perfect chance to make me stumble. Thanks, Jason!
I was reading in Philipians this morning and Paul is in jail not knowing if he was going to be killed or set free. He says to live is Christ and to die is gain. He desires to be with Christ which is far better but he knows that he was here to encourage his brothers and preach the gospel to others (and write so we would have the gospel). This is exactly why we are here.. to encourage each other and reach others for Christ. I pray that this will be my main objectives in the years to come. It’s so easy to get bogged down in doing junk that we aren’t doing what God has called us to do. Ask yourself next time you get ready to speak “Are these words encouraging someone?” or “Are my actions causing someone to be led to Christ?”
I agree…lately i have found satan setting traps before me and i actually fall for them and they come out of nowhere…he does seem to catch me at my lowest…i wonder what makes sin so inviting that i would actually allow my joy to be sucked out in order to pursue sin…i know satan has been working on sin for a long time but sometimes i feel so suckerpunched…how can something so lowly take away something so pure…i know that is my selfish desires…i have been praying for bolder and more confident faith…i like what 1Peter 8-9 says…”Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers througout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” These words are an encouragement to me…it helps to know that im not on my own…
I like that Coco. So often we feel like we are all on our own, alone in the world to face persecution by ourselves. The devil puts this thought into us. God made the church with this in mind, I’m sure. We are never alone; we are never meant to be alone; in fact, we are specifically programmed and created to not ever be alone in this way. Relationships are the heart of who we are, and Satan knows this well. It is good to memorize verses like 1 Peter 5:8-9 so that you can rub them in the devil’s face and send him packing, and so guard your heart and soul. Great reply, Coco; keep up the good work. May God continue to use you all your days and bless you through such holy works by raising your eyes to see the effect and result it has on other people and yourself. Praise God for people like you.
