Unwrapping Gifts on December 26

Published by jkelly at 9:35 am under the Depths Edit This

What was the best gift you opened this year?  As I watched my kids open their gifts EARLY yesterday morning, I was reminded of how excited I used to get on Christmas morning.  I was still excited this year, but a different kind of excitement. I suppose that happens when you get older.  24 hours later the house is quiet, the tree looks bare, and everyone is sleeping. What a difference a day makes.  Exactly 24 hours earlier, everyone was up.  The house was loud with sounds of excitement and crumpling paper. This morning, no one is in a hurry to get up.

I read 2 Peter 1 this morning.  A few things really stood out to me. 2 Peter 1:3: ”His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”  Did you catch that? “Given us everything we need for life.”  We could end with that and not fully grasp what is being taught.  What does it feel like to live a life having all we need?  I have to ask myself why I don’t live in this knowledge.  We go on: 2 Peter 1:4:Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”  Yesterday we gave and received gifts in honor of Jesus’ birthday.   The two verses mentioned here talk about us having all we need, and in verse 4, the word given is used.  Read verse 4 again.  Dig out the gift that is waiting, even the day after Christmas, to be opened.

I love being here with the Lord this morning.  I am reminded that each day has gifts from the Lord.  Promises to be unwrapped.  What are some promises that the Lord gives?

BONUS WORD

2 Peter 1:5-9: 5 “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.”

I haven’t been very consistent with my quiet time since I have been in Houston. Today, a comment was made that has just about sent me over the edge..I am reading this blog and God of course is using it to calm the angry feelings that are trying to overtake me..I want to possess the above qualities in 2 Peter so I must forgive and move on in the joy I have in Christ.
